Beckhoff Automation LLC currently has a job opening for an I/O Systems Specialist (electrical engineer) based in our Savage, MN (Minneapolis area) North American headquarters office. As an I/O Specialist, you have the opportunity to help others in the technical services group understand a multitude of signal types associated with the Beckhoff lines of smart I/O terminals and Fieldbus Box modules.
Experience working with multiple fieldbus and industrial Ethernet systems, such as EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET is required. A good working knowledge of calibration and test measurement equipment, such as Fluke digital storage oscilloscopes, Dranetz power quality analyzers, or similar equipment, will be helpful.
The knowledge of signal technologies required for this position goes well beyond simple analog and digital types. PWM outputs, motion feedback, motor controllers, weight scale, power measurement and power quality, oversampling, time stamping, hot connect, redundancy, distributed clocks, and gateways to every other major fieldbus on the market are all included in this category.
Qualified individuals for the I/O Specialist position will be expected to serve as the technical expert for the I/O product lines and help maximize the success of relevant products. Individuals in this position will collaborate with all departments of the company to drive results.
Tier 3 Support:
Answer technical questions and educate the frontline sales and support staff.
Coordinate with Support Team Leader for better Level 1 development.
Provide direct customer support as part of the escalation channel.
Monitor support queue in the I/O product area and assist with direct customer support in times of high call volume.
Add knowledge base articles in your specific area of expertise.
Assist in long-term testing of newly released or developing products.
Update the specialist project spreadsheet as time permits.
Direct Support of Sales Team:
Work with sales team to ensure that proper technical solutions are recommended for customer projects.
Work with regional application engineers and keep them up-to-date on the latest I/O Technologies.
Attend sales visits to key high profile accounts located across North America, as necessary.
Assist in the development of trade show and sales demos in your product area.
Help Warehouse Team Leader to better manage flow of materials in your product area.
Update sales and support teams via email on the latest delivery times and release dates of new products.
Support Training Efforts:
Identify new training documents and products features and ensure the Training Group is aware of them so that curriculum can be adjusted as necessary.
Develop training module within your area of expertise.
Teach custom training to both staff and customers, as required.
Technical Interfacing with Headquarters Product Development:
Identify and build a working relationship with your corresponding colleague in Beckhoff’s global headquarters in Germany.
Strive to increase knowledge of all responsible parties for your product, in terms of development, production, support and service.
Additional Marketing work as time permits:
Trade magazine interviews (via phone and email)
Generation of whitepaper material for marketing use in magazine features or as sponsored advertising content
Trade show demo suggestions and occasional trade show booth staffing
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience programming and developing automated controls.
Solid understanding of PLCs and motion control plus a working knowledge of electronics, major fieldbuses, Industrial PCs, HMI and Microsoft-based software.
Technical training experience with clients and/or internal employees.
Highly proficient with IEC 61131-3 programming languages.
Ability to travel up to 25% locally and nationally.
