Structural Engineer

Join PCI Skanska and be part of a team that provides valued solutions that builds success for our clients and employees. Your role will include building and managing relationships with in-house teams, and contractors while providing structural design and consulting services that are needed by facility managers and owners.

Projects will include services for:

· Office Facilities
· Educational Facilities
· Laboratories
· Healthcare Facilities
· Restaurants
· Warehouses
· Manufacturing Facilities
· Industrial Facilities
· Power Plant Facilities

Services that you will provide include structural design for new and existing facilities, as well as assisting with construction coordination.

Specific design related services include:
· Building foundation design including shallow and deep foundations
· Concrete pit and trench design
· Soil retention design including those for temporary construction
· Slab on grade and elevated slab design
· Equipment lifting design and layout
· Fall protection design for general industry and construction
· Building design using steel, concrete, masonry, and wood
· Connection design
· Equipment support design and layout
· Mechanical process piping supports.
· Create specification documents

Skills, Abilities, Requirements, and Preferences
Preferred applicants should have a minimum of a BS in Engineering, a Professional Engineering Registration and have between 4 and 10 years of related design experience. A working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, and the Ram Products are also preferred but not required at the time of hire. As an structural engineer on projects you will, in general, be required to demonstrate a high standard of professionalism, client focus/customer service, and ownership/responsibility; be resourceful and flexible, effective at handling multiple tasks; have good computer skills; have strong presentation, written, and verbal skills; and be able to effectively delegate or be delegated to while working in a collaborative format with multiple team members.

Specifically you will be required to:
· Listen to our clients’ needs and independently provide value to our clients by evaluating options based upon the client’s needs and desires.
· Communicate your design recommendations to our clients, project team, construction contractors, and vendors in presentations, meetings, via email and phone as necessary.
· Work alone on projects, or work on a project team with other structural staff to design and detail the structural systems that are needed, assuring that the work is accurate and coordinated, and that the quality assurance measures have been followed.
· Ensure that the structural design on projects conform to the requirements of the applicable codes; including the latest addition of the International Building Code, ASCE/SEI-07, ACI 318, and Steel Construction Manual by AISC.
· Effectively utilize computer design software and have a working knowledge of 3-D Modeling/BIM software for design producing construction drawings, and for construction coordination modeling.
· Provide timely services that meet the needs of the clients and the overall project schedule requirements.
· Effectively interact with construction personnel providing needed direction and observation.
· Maintain appropriate contact with our existing clients so that they think of our firm when our services our needed.
· Participate in the development of new services or markets needed by our clients.
· Travel out of town from time to time.

The Physical and Ergonomic Requirements of this position are as follows:
· Lifting/carrying: Carrying light loads related to field measurement equipment, equipment cases weighing 15 lbs. or less.
· Dexterity: Ability to type using a keyboard with relative efficiency, ability to make handwritten notes and sketches indoors and outdoors at industrial plant and construction sites at any time of the year.
· Walking/Climbing: Ability to use multi-level stair towers and rung ladders unassisted.
· Visual Acuity: Ability to discern single line and 3 dimensional computer images representing objects being designed or drafted.
· Hearing: Ability to hear safety alarms and signals while wearing hearing protection.
· Physical exertion: Ability to walk up to one mile on industrial plant and construction sites outdoors at any time of the year. Ability to work in protective clothing which may elevate body temperatures by several degrees Fahrenheit for periods of up to 15 minutes without a break.
· Breathing: Ability to work while wearing a respirator or self-contained breathing apparatus.
