Pulse International is looking for an experienced Physician for the post of Clinical Director of General Medicine for a 181-bed teaching hospital in the South Island.
Job description:
The hospital provides secondary services to the Otago region and tertiary services (including Cardothoracic and Neurosurgery) to the lower South Island. Because of the relatively sparse population in this part of the country we face some unique challenges, and a degree of flexibility and innovation is required. Annual admissions to ICU average around 800 and approximately one third of these are Cardiac Surgical patients.
The Intensive Care Service offers a comprehensive outreach service into the region by way of a retrieval team and provides advice and support to the ICU in Southland Hospital. There is a strong teaching programme which includes an Aeromedical Evacuation course run twice a year.
The Intensive Care Unit is a well-equipped modern facility which is staffed for sustained occupancy with 6 – 10 beds and has experienced nurses, with a very low staff turnover. There is an establishment of 5 other Consultant Intensivists besides the Clinical Leader , most of whom are employed on a 6/10 basis in the Intensive Care Service and 4/10 in another discipline. There is 24 hour in-house cover by registrars drawn from various disciplines. Consultant Intensivists work periods of days-on in the unit and a modified night shift roster with a strong commitment to a high level of consultant supervision and leadership in the hospital at night. The team also assists in the management of patients in other High Dependency areas around the hospital.
Candidates should be eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
